Week 8 of the Summer term will mean exams for many, but it will also be the week to offer Cartmel students to once again use their vote.
In week 1 of the term the JCR had to co-opt a new Publicity Officer into office after Chris Gandhi chose to leave. ‘Mini-hustings’ were held in a meeting and of all the candidates that ran, the JCR chose to temporarily place Jennifer Habart into the role.
The upcoming elections will give Jen the chance to run officially for the role, as well as any other candidates who wish to put themselves forward for the permanency offered by the college vote.
As well as Publicity Officer, the Female Ed and Welfare position will also be up for grabs as Sian Brigham will be leaving office before the end of the term. She will begin a year of placement abroad for her degree course.
Anybody who is interested in running for the positions should contact our Chairperson Michael Benson, and for more information on the positions available, the current officers will be happy to advise. You can flick back to the inside cover to find out all their e-mail addresses.
Certain non-sabbatical positions will also be voted upon in week 8. Details of which positions these are and their hopeful candidates will be distributed nearer the time.
The university is also moving towards e-voting for future elections. The election sub-committee and LUSU are still debating on the issue, which you can follow at democracy.lusu. co.uk.
