Patriot’s Cup Win

Some said we were dreamers. Others said that we were crazy. But by ten o’clock on the evening of Saturday 7th March, Cartmel were crowned champions of The Patriot’s Cup, after a simply incredible day!

We started the day as we meant to go on with two astonishing performances from Cartmel A and B teams, both winning comfortably against a lacklustre Furness. Cartmel’s As had an emphatic 2-0 victory, and the Bs won 3-2, but never looked like they were going to lose.

In fun football we unfortunately couldn’t get a team together and therefore the points went to Furness.

We were also dealt another blow after Furness took the rounders game, after a great effort from the Cartmel team.

The Patriot’s Cup then moved indoors as we went to the sports centre for more hardcore competition. Volleyball was the first of under-roof activity which we won with the utmost of ease, taking both sets with the style and class expected of a college worthy of winning the day.

Next came basketball which was always likely to be a struggle. Furness had some uni basketball players on their team which made life very difficult for the hard working and industrious Cartmelians and we therefore went on to suffer a rare loss.

The final clash of the day was in dodgeball. This was a particularly fun sport which once again allowed us to shine. The mighty Cartmel needed only three of the five set match to take it home 3-0 to cap a superb finish to the day sports.

The evening’s events started off in Furness bar, with the team pool, peoples’ darts, Guitar Hero competition and the quiz.

After a dinner of hotdogs, Cartmel went on to take victory in the team pool (only just!), but sadly lost out to Furness in people’s darts and on Guitar Hero.

From Furness we then moved back down home for the second half of the evening’s events consisting of team darts, peoples’ pool, Wii competition, second half of the quiz and the all important Presidential arm wrestling competition!

Cartmel took both first and second place in the quiz and winning with the Wii, whilst sadly losing out on victory for the team darts and peoples’ pool.

Robbie Pickles held out well against David Prescott for the arm wrestling competition, but unfortunately Prescott went on to take victory. Our pres’s efforts were so valiant that he would later wake up with an aching arm, but we can confirm it was “definitely worth it”.

The day’s overall score was 38 to 30 in Cartmel’s favour, which is an excellent start to the first year of The Patriot’s Cup.

We think all involved would agree that it was a brilliant day with an even better end (for Cartmel anyway!).

A big thanks to everyone who got involved and supported and let’s hope for a repeat victory again next year!
