It’s been a very exciting term’s worth of Carter Shield so far! We began with two taster sessions which Cartmel had the biggest turnout for both – big well done on that, we all looked committed and awesome.
After the taster sessions we moved onto the important stuff: the competition days! First up came pop-lacrosse on 15th February. Another large turnout meant that Cartmel had a realistic chance of getting into finals day, and we certainly didn’t disappoint. Having finished fourth in our group, the griffin will be on show in finals day.
The weekend after we had two events at once to take part in. Table-tennis was first and we had a tricky challenge with other colleges having some very experienced ping-pongers in their teams. Despite this we fought hard and just missed out on a place in the final, finishing third in our group with the top two going through. The second event – aeroball – was very well supported by the Cartmel crowd, earning us praise from others due to the enormous noise we were making. Spurred on by this, we stormed into the final once again when we finished second in our group. Good times.
The final Carter Shield sport was basketball and Cartmel was the only team not to be fielding a university-team player. Therefore the odds were heavily stacked against us and we struggled valiantly through each game, finishing fourth in our group.
Nevertheless, It’s been a great effort this term and hopefully it will continue on finals day on 15th March…
See you there!
