Sports Update

For the past few weeks the sports centre has been home to the Carter Shield taster sessions. What this meant was that people could come along to the sports hall and try out some new sports that they might not have ever done before, and all for FREE!

The sports that they had on offer consisted of: Korfball, a crazy mix of basketball and netball and the only mixed sport played on campus; Dodgeball, which is just like the film; Aeroball, though I’ve not played looks like basketball on a trampoline; and Table Tennis, but I’m sure most of you know what that is.

The purpose of the taster sessions was to give colleges a chance to get people involved with the sports sphere and to make sure that it will not just be all the sporty people in the sporty colleges that win the events this year.

Last year Cartmel came 6th overall with a whopping total of 111 points! You may be sat there thinking, oh its only 6th, but alas this was only 2 points away from 5th and 25 from 3rd! Also considering the year before I got here the grand total at the end of the year was just 35, I think the sports reps had done a grand job to over triple our points. So this year surely we can do better. Currently we are joint 4th in the table after just one event.

So what’s that I hear you call… “How do I get involved?”. Well its simple. I’m sure that you will all have some way of contacting the sports reps, possibly through a friend, maybe even a friend of a friends friend. Well its even simpler, on the college website (www.cartmelcollege.co.uk) if you go to the sports section you can send Gaz and Rach an email letting them know if you are interested in playing some of the sports we have lined up, or if you just have any questions in general about the college and inter-college sports.

I will certainly be doing my bit for the college and making sure I play dodgeball at least! There seems to have been a grudge match between myself and the fylde sports rep, in a friendly way of course.

So hope to see you all there! Any level of sporting ability welcome, its more about the FUN factor!
