Hi! My name is Shelley Diggins and I’m from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I’m studying for a degree in Sociology and I’m entering my final year.
I’ve been captain of Cartmel for a year now and I love it! We have a match once a week, on either a Tuesday or a Friday and we train twice a week. College netball can be competitive at times but players who prefer to play for fun are still welcome as we play friendlies agaisnt other colleges as well as among ourselves.
Cartmel are not the best team in the league, but things are changing! Last year we finished one position higher in the league and got to the semi-finals in the Handicap Cup! We are determined to continue in this direction therefore we are always looking for new players as well as continuing to train with current players.
The netball league is played throughout the first and second term of the academic year, in this league only college teams are allowed to play. However in the final term we take part in the ‘ Handicap Cup’, this is a tournament open to any netball team, including college teams, Uni teams and any other form of team.
Anyone interested in taking part in Cartmel’s netball team is welcome! I can be contacted at s.diggins@lancaster.ac.uk if needed.
