Interview with the captains

How often are matches?

Once a week on a Thursday night starting at 7pm usually lasting untill 9.30-10.00pm and then we have our weekly socials straight afterwards.

How often is training?

We will try and train on one day a week, however this will be decided amongst the team once it is chosen depending on everyones availability. Also, the teams are expected to turn up to matches an hour earlier to practice.

How competitive is college pool?

College pool is as competitive as you want to make it. In Cartmel we take the matches seriously, no one like to lose but have no expectations or demands from players only that they enjoy themselves and attempt to socialise within the group.

Are Cartmel good at pool? Where did the team finish in the league last year?

It would be fair to say pool might not be Cartmels strongest area – but it can be said that the pool team definately had a great time throughout the year regardless. The team was very inexperienced and packed with freshers so hopefully they can use their experience next year to improve the league ratings.

How can Cartmel improve on last years results?

The team felt that one of the reasons why we stuggled in the overall league was the quality of our home tables which became uneven and scratched in places making the tables difficult and unpredictable to play at home every other week.

How long through the Uni year is pool played?

Michaelmas and Lent terms.

Anything else?

Cartmel pool team offers the chance for people to play pool against the other colleges on campus but also have a really good time in the process. The pool is obviously taken seriously, but once the matches are over, the fun can really begin. Every week the team embarks on a mission into town to have a few drinks. For some people this is the reason why they join the team! We encourage all players to come out as often as possible as this is often a stipulation of the sponsorship deal, and also it is aways a really good night out with the weekly boat race taking center stage! Look out for the posters which will go up in freshers week with details of trials and we hope to see many of you there with plenty of places up for grabs. Please don’t hesitate to contact either captain for any further information.
