Here at Cartmel, there are loads of fantastic opportunities to get involved with sports. Whether you’re particularly experienced at a particular sport, or a complete beginner who doesn’t think yourself the sporting type, you can be sure that there will be something for you! The Carter Shield

The Carter Shield is an opportunity to take part in some truly wacky sports. For virtually everyone who plays it’s their first time and it is very inclusive. You don’t have to come down to every sport. Just pick and choose at your leisure. The competition is structured with several taster sessions so you can have a go before all the colleges compete on the competitions days. All the finals are held on one day. Carter Shield events are held on a Sunday afternoon and are a great way to meet people and have a laugh while getting some gentle exercise. Inter-College Sport Leagues

Cartmel College competes in many inter-college leagues. In this format the college selects a team at the beginning of the year that play all the other colleges throughout the year. These teams are a great opportunity to meet new people and become a central part of Cartmel College. Sports that are played at an inter-college level are: Football, Netball, Darts, Pool and Dominoes. The Patriot’s Cup

The Patriot’s Cup is an inter-college sporting competition between Cartmel and Furness colleges. Established in 2009, Cartmel were the first side to be victorious! The day consists of outdoor sports such as football and rounders, indoor events including basketball and dodgeball, and bar sports – darts and pool. There are also Wii competitions, a quiz, and a presidential arm wrestle between the two colleges! The atmosphere of the day continue into the night, as we head to The Sugarhouse to either celebrate or commiserate. For more information, see the Patriots Cup page.

The Sports Calendar

To make it easy to see what’s on and where, our sports reps produce a sports calendar for the college. It shows all the sports going on each term, so check it out. If you’re part of a Cartmel team and are not on the calendar, give the sports reps a shout and let them know!
