In addition to our regular socials, every year we have four ‘Special’ events to look forward to - Friday Fury, Freshers Week, Winter Ball and Extrav. These events are massive and each college has their own. They take a lot of the planning, but are alot of fun!

Friday Fury is a recent inter-college initiative developed by the JCR Exec Social Secretaries and LUSU to encourage the Save the College Bars campaign which aims to return the College bars to profitability.

Occurring on weeks to be announced, the aim is to collect badges, cards or wristbands from each college bar, which individually get you £1 off entry at the socials final destination: The Sugarhouse. Friday Fury has been widely credited as being a huge success and is always guaranteed to be a great night for everyone involved!

Freshers Week 2008 - Casino night

Freshers Week 2008 - Casino night

It is in this week that we welcome a massive influx of Freshers into Cartmel. This week is very busy, and packed with socials and other events. Although life is a little more settled for continuers, for freshers it is often a dash between attending ‘highly exciting’ introductory sessions… right through to finding an outfit in preparation for the evening’s ‘BIG NIGHT OUT’.

For more information about Freshers Week, visit the ‘Freshers‘ section!

Cartmel Winter Ball 2008

Cartmel Winter Ball 2008 - Imperial Hotel Blackpool

The Winter ball - or Christmas ball - is a great experience and is an opportunity to see through the end of the first term in style! We typically have food, drink, and plenty of entertainment ongoing throughout the night. We also give out some awards!

The Winter ball is held at a different venue each year, and is usually organised by each years JCR Exec President.

The last week of the summer term is an action packed week. Exams are over and all the colleges put on a huge summer party, known as ‘Extrav’. The Extrav is planned and run by the entire JCR Exec, and is open to students of every college! For more information about Extrav, see the Extrav page.
