What … ?

Cartmel socials are very varied and will certainly appeal to all.

Every term, our social secretaries think-up and plan at least six different socials, for us to enjoy. They publish a social calendar, which outlines the entire term, and splits the socials up into the academic weeks. You can view the current calendar viewable by clicking here.

Barker Raving Mad - April 2009

Past socials have included trips to nightclubs such as ‘Feel’ in Preston, ‘Krazyhouse’ at Liverpool and ‘5th Avenue’ in Manchester. Day trips are also arranged, usually once a term, to exciting activities such as paintballing. Closer to home, we offer a mixture of on-campus and off-campus socials, often fancy dressed themed!

This year has seen the introduction of Barker Raving Mad, where we transform the JCR into a themed party venue! In April, we kitted out the room with neon lights, special decorations, and walls to write on!

Regardless of whether it is an on-campus or off-campus social, in any situation we will never pressure anyone into drinking alcohol and you certainly won’t be frowned upon by drinking soft-drinks.

As well as the bar and club socials, every week we hold our amazing Sunday quiz- with prizes! Meet at 8pm every Sunday in the college bar, and remember to bring clever friends!

Ambiguous Fancy Dress - March 2009

Our events are primarily aimed at Cartmel students, but anyone is usually welcome. Although for ticketed events, priority has to obviously be given to Cartmelians!

Regardless of whether you’re a student living on or off campus, we have an unlimited amount of fun at our socials so come along and take part. We are sure you will enjoy yourself.

Socials are characterized by those who attend, so get involved!

When … ?

With the exception of the Sunday night quiz, our socials can take place on any night of the week! To find out what’s on, you just need to take a look at our social calendar. Our social secretaries choose the days for each social depending on the type of event, venue, how far into the term we are - for coursework and revision – and also  to give variety to the calendar.

Why … ?

Krazyhouse - May 2009

Pretty much everyone likes to let ‘their hair’ down…and it is for this reason that we have socials throughout the year.

Attending socials is a fantastic way to meet up with fellow friends, or even to make new ones. We’re all a friendly bunch in Cartmel and you can sure that you’ll find at least one face to talk to.

Another important reason why we have socials….is college spirit. Every college, be it Lonsdale, Pendle, Bowland etc, is a community. Here at Cartmel, we like to get together, as a community, and remind the other colleges what they’re missing!
