Welcome to the entire section devoted to freshers! You can use the links to the right of the page to explore the various information we have on offer. The Freshers Guide is a massive store of information about all sorts of things, including accommodation, shopping, entertainment and nights out, places to eat and other services. This has been updated for 2009! We also have a guide to college accommodation, which you will find especially useful before you arrive. The college facilities page gives a quick rundown of the various facilities we have right here in Cartmel, and the college staff page lists the senior members of the college, what they do, and how you can contact them if necessary. Finally, we have the packing guide – an extremely useful resource, to help you decide what to bring with you (and what not to bring!) and the freshers calendar. The freshers calendar contains the schedule for what may be one of the best weeks of your life! Check it out for more details.

The first seven days will be very busy. By day there’ll be academic and personal talks for you to attend. By night, there’ll be socialising, partying, and generally having a great time! As a fresher, you will be allocated a ‘Kitchen Rep’ – a continuing student (e.g. a second year student) – who will frequently come and let you, and your flatmates know what’s going on during the day, and in the evenings. If you have any questions once you arrive, they will be able to help! You are also likely to become good friends with your kitchen rep. For many freshers, the entire week will be a start of a life changing experience as you forge new friendships and learn about yourself.
It can seem a bit daunting but just remember – everyone is in the same boat and it’s rare to know anyone when you arrive! The best way of getting settled, is to get involved as much as possible. Get to know your flatmates because the chances are that these will be some of your closest friends here, and you will be surprised how much time you spend with some of them.
The rest of your block is also great to get to know. Go around the other flats in your block in freshers week… introduce yourself and invite them over for a drink or a chat. Chances are you’ll be glad you did! As well as all this, go to as many socials as you can, even if you go on your own you will meet people there – that’s the whole point!
If you have any further questions about freshers week before you arrive, get in contact with our Vice President!
We look forward to seeing you in September!
