Fresher’s Week 2009 is closer than ever. We’re all busy getting everything set up and ready for when you arrive! Hopefully by now, you’ll have everything sorted out for the transition to university life. Or, if you’re a continuer, you were probably ready to move back weeks ago. Either way – the busiest week of the year is almost upon us. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s going on. For more detail, be sure to check out the full calendar, and The Guide.

Sunday, 27th September: Moving in day, from 10am till 4pm. Register with the College in Barker House Farm as soon as you can. Orientation is at 6pm in the Great Hall – you will be escorted onto campus by your block rep.

Monday, 28th September: Attend the essential safety talk at 12:45 in the Faraday Building – again, you will be shown where to go! Meet your major department at some point today. Register with the University, and receive your username and password. In the evening – eat in your flat beforehand, and then join us for the C for Cartmel fancy dress bar crawl.

Tuesday, 29th September: Go to any Part 1 talks which interest you. Make sure you can make an informed decision about which to choose. Tonight is the Big Night Out! Experience the nightlife of Lancaster. Remember to eat before you go out.

Wednesday, 30th September: Part 1 enrolment. Enrol on the Part 1 subject(s) you have chosen, after visiting the talks yesterday! Also, Give It A Go! at Fresher’s Fair today, including a roller disco. In the evening we have a Giant Games Night, including Wii games. Relax a bit tonight, as we have another great party tomorrow.

Thursday, 1st October: It’s day two of Fresher’s Fair today and Try It, You Might Like It! You’ll be able to sign up with clubs and societies.  In the evening – Barker Raving Mad Glows to Revs. Get dressed up in Neon, and then make your way to an on-campus party, followed by a night in one of Lancaster’s best night spots.

Friday, 2nd October: The final day of Fresher’s Fair brings Friday Funday and Freebie Fair – don’t miss the opportunity to grab the free stuff! Later on, join us for free pizza and karaoke in the bar.

Saturday, 3rd October: Your first Saturday at university. We’ve got a rounders competition planned, although it is weather permitting! Hopefully, you’ll get a taste of sport at Lancaster.

Sunday, 4th October: Recovery day! Nothing much is happening in the day today, but don’t miss our famous Sunday night quiz, and for one week only – scavenger hunt!

Our Equal Opportunities and Education & Welfare officers will be running office hours this week, most days, from 11.30am until 12.30pm. Kat and Jonny will be available on Monday and Thursday, while Rosie and Tom will be available Wednesday and Friday. All are being held in the JCR Office, accessed via the Porter’s Lodge (turn right and go through the post room).

We are the JCR Exec, and if you have any questions about Fresher’s Week, please get in touch. Also, join the Cartmel College Freshers 2009 Facebook group, as we find it’s the best way to get information out to you guys. If you don’t have a Facebook account yet, why not set one up? It’s free and easy, and is likely to prove invaluable as you try and match names to faces, throughout your entire university life!

Other information which you might find useful includes our packing guide, overview of college facilities, and accommodation information.

We’re looking forward to meeting you soon!

- Tom
